Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ's

Please see below for information regarding Rising Damp, Penetrating Damp, Mould, Condensation, Excess moisture and Water as a Vapour Damage

What is the difference between Rising Damp and Penetrating Damp?

Rising damp is moisture rising from ground level through capillary action, It is not as common as people expect. Penetrating damp is water from outside such as rain, faulty guttering or a leak internally.

Do Damp experts just recommend costly rising damp treatment?

As an Independent Surveyor I am not responsible for finding work for Technicians. I will take a holistic view of the property and how water could be finding its way into the home. Recommending cost effective work and explaining why each action is recommended.

How can I treat mould in my home?

The most important first step is to ascertain where the moisture is coming from. Book a consultation to assist with this.

You can clean the mould patch with white vinegar.

Are damp issues expensive to fix?

They can be if you have been recommended expensive remedial actions by a damp company using sales people as surveyors. Book an independent surveyor, to get to bottom of the excess water, some remedial actions can be completed by a DIYer or general builder. Best case scenario, the remedial action can be something relatively cheap such as, resealing windows, filling creaks, painting window sills or lifestyle changes.

Why do you charge for a survey?

You are paying for the training and experience to get the right remedial action to solve damp issues in your home. Free surveys can be used by companies to generate work.
